What is a Initiative profile

An Initiative profile is the first step for you, as a potentially transformative change-maker collective, to participate in the Regenerative Knowledge Commons.

The Main section contains:

  • a summary of key relations and description of practice are provided here as well;
  • optionally there is also the ability to display multiple images, any relevant links (websites, social media, other affiliations), full social-entity name, start/end dates, a longer description, motivation for participating in RKC and legal structure (if any);

Other tabs contain:

  • and, Playlists & More section that provides a space to organize:
    • frequently used patterns and interventions
    • narratives about one's Initiative,
    • and essence entries for this Initiative from any RKC participant.
Initiative Profile for Global Ecovillage Network Europe
GEN Europe is the European network for ecovillages and sustainable communities. Our vision is of a conscious, resilient and sustainable Europe where ecovillage and community values and lifestyles are widely adopted.

Since 1996, it’s been our mission to support and connect the ecovillage movement, encourage ecovillage development, educate for sustainability and ultimately create a world where empowered local communities are at the forefront of creating a fairer society that regenerates the earth, and ourselves.

We are powered by our members: over 100 ecovillages and aspiring ecovillage projects, and 18 national ecovillage networks in 26 countries and counting. Together, we educate, advocate and innovate, through events, courses, meetings and projects.

GEN Europe is part of the Global Ecovillage Network: an ever-growing network of thousands of regenerative communities and initiatives that bridges cultures, countries, and continents through its five regional networks and its international youth branch, NextGEN.

We’re a non-profit organisation, and our day-to-day functions are served by the Secretariat, a staff team that takes care of daily operations and enacting the organisation’s strategy.

Guiding the Secretariat is our oversight body, the Council, who are elected every two years to hold our vision by the General Assembly. The General Assembly, made up of all full member ecovillages, makes proposals, debates and approves decisions and strategic direction for the organisation. Besides participating in the General Assembly annually, members are involved in GEN Europe’s work through Working Groups, such as Advocacy, National Networks, Youth and Projects.

As a regional member of the Global Ecovillage Network, GEN Europe representatives take part in GEN’s general assembly and board, sharing news from the region and helping steer the organisation.

True to ecovillage values of participatory, shared and transparent governance, we aim to work sociocratically, which means creating a governance structure based on consent decision making, self organising principles and feedback loops. It is “governance by peers”, a process for creating harmonious organisations, based on equivalence, efficiency, flexibility and transparency. The key value is that all individuals are acknowledged and collective intelligence is a source of inspiration and creativity.

This is a continuous learning process and work in progress, held by the Governance working group, made up of experts in Sociocracy.

Playlists & More

[edit]

About Patterns Tab...

The Patterns tab allows for the compilation of an organizational playlist of frequently-used Patterns--practices, processes, frameworks, tools, capacities, livelihoods and any other elements of transformative action.

Pattern is a generative field, in that a new entry can prompt the creation of a new Pattern page, using a red link.

[edit]

About Processes Tab...

The Interventions tab allows for the compilation of a Initiative playlist of frequently-used Interventions--unique instances of potentially transformative actions.

Interventions derived from Patterns, stand a better chance to be transformative. The aim is for our Interventions to be well-conceived, context-specific and consciously applied.

Intervention is a generative field, in that a new entry can prompt the creation of a new Intervention page, using a red link.

About Elements Tab...

The Narratives tab enables Initiatives to create relevant narrative elements about themselves, such as stories, descriptions, past experiences, and happenings.

About Essence Tab...

The Essence tab allows for anyone in RKC (including members of collective) to comment on what makes you unique along three different dimensions:
  • Aliveness: What energizes a collective that really makes it come alive, beyond the functional of everyday existence.
  • Offering: The unique value a collective offers in order to bring a higher-order of viability and vitality to, or evolve a particular system they are working to transform (this is context specific).
  • Potential: A tendency in a collective that it is continually striving to manifest into existence.

Over time, this feature can offer deeper insights to what each collective as a whole brings to this co-creative space.
