Welcome to the Regenerative Knowledge Commons (RKC)!

This knowledge commons is an open-source, wiki-based commons for collectively (re)generating knowledge, understanding and even wisdom, perhaps, around regenerative commoning!

The Regenerative Knowledge Commons (RKC) was brought into existence as part of two Erasmus+ projects (Community Climate Coaches and Activating Community Transformation) in order to give a place for what wants to continue beyond the end of any project; this effort as such, has a rich background.

RKC is an open and living system for knowledge freely given, to be cared for and shared.

RKC is intended as an active space for practitioners to regenerate themselves and their thinking, to cultivate relations with fellow participants and collectively inhabit the systems they intend to transform and evolve. Indeed, to the extent they intend to transform the larger contexts they are a part of, will generate both value for themselves and others via their active participation.

Absolutely anyone, and we hope everyone, will benefit from this knowledge commons.

Anyone can browse freely, without logging in. What you will find here is various types of entities:

• Those who aspire to take on transformative roles:
  • Individuals--Persons
  • Collectives-- Initiatives
  • Geographic locations--Localities where these are found;
• Constellations of transformative activity organized...
  • locally, around a place: Communities of Place; or,
  • translocally, around fields of praxis: Communities of Practice;
• Patterns--such as practices, processes, frameworks, tools, capacities, livelihoods, curated via Communities of Practice, whose recurrence in the world is desirable due to reconciliatory nature in a particular context; and,
• Interventions--unique, potentially-transformative expressions of Patterns re-contextualized for and responsive to real-world contexts of Communities of Place.

There are several ways to participate in RKC:

    note: when requesting account, please fill in Real Name field appropriately (this will be the name of your Person page).
2. On approval, login to RKC

The RKC is designed to make visible and tangible the constellations of individuals and collectives engaged in transforming their ecosocial systems guided by a regenerative (i.e. living systems) paradigm.

These self-organizing constellations occur both locally as Communities of Place and translocally as Communities of Practice. And, where the local and translocal intersect they form transformative ecosystems.

Supporting the emergence, growth, visibility and potency of such transformative ecosystems is the key purpose of the RKC. This depends upon, the dynamic, mutually beneficial interactions of all who participate here!

The RKC is a commons, in that it is co-produced, co-governed and shared/co-utilized to varying degrees by all participating. It is stewarded by the RKC Circle of Stewards.

Being that RKC is a common resource , it is vital that all participating understand its "right-working", so that it responsibility all for maintaining its essence, purpose, and functioning. And, when called, stepping up to being part of the Circle of Stewards caring for it and helping it reach its potential over time.

RKC exists in so far as it is an enabler for regenerative commoning.

There are many divergent conceptualizations of what the term regenerative means—each valid within its particular context. There is as of yet no shared understanding. Our intention here is that, via RKC, we are able to co-create shared meaning of what it means to be regenerative over time.

RKC’s operating system (OS) is built on wiki-based technology, specifically, MediaWiki—the technology behind Wikipedia.

The OS builds upon existing wiki functionality in some important ways. For instance, all wiki pages are operated through a variety of tabs at the very top that are used to engage with various aspects of the page. Two key ones for RKC are:

• "user page" that renders the page in display mode; and,
• "edit with form" that allows for structured editing of the information, displayed on "user page".

As with all wikis, page names must be unique for the OS to work meaningfully. Once created, they cannot be easily deleted. Think well, before creating a new page.

• Spelling matters!
• Please (always) check existing pages, before creating a new page, to see if the page exists under a different spelling.

The RKC is both an active space for co-creation and a living repository for co-learning and is therefore, composed of two distinct, yet interdependent subsystems.

• The Co-Create aspect of the RKC wiki is dedicated to ongoing self-characterization (participatory action research (PAR)) and mapping of regenerative commoners: individuals (Persons) and collectives of individuals (Initiatives), who aspire to take on transformative roles that emerge out of a deepening self-knowledge of who they are uniquely--their essence--and what they are being called to co-create. These are generators of lived-experience via Patterns abstracted from Interventions.

• The Co-Learn aspect of the RKC wiki is dedicated to curation and cultivation of Patterns for regenerative commoning, which may represent practices, processes, frameworks, tools, capacities, livelihoods and any other elements of transformative action in the context of organic, life-enhancing processes. Likewise, cultivating knowledge via learning from pattern-guided Interventions in real-world contexts.

RKC’s transformative ecosystems can be populated by six “keystone species” or types of entities:

• Persons
• Initiatives
• Communities of Place
• Communities of Practice
• Patterns
• Interventions

Note: Localities are merely referential entities, used to identify one more geographic locations for Persons or Initiatives.

RKC is alive because it is an ecosystem, in the truest definition of the word—a set of relations amongst living entities.
